The university was the only higher education institution to earn the designation of 2021 VETS Indexes 4 Star Employer, as part of the inaugural VETS Indexes Employer Awards.
The designation recognizes an organizationβs commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting military veteran employees and others in the military-connected community.
βGeorgia State University has established itself as one of the nationβs top veteran employers, with its status as a VETS Indexes 4 Star Employer,β said George Altman, managing director of VETS Indexes. βTheir commitment to not just hiring veterans, but then helping them to develop into integral and high-ranking employees, is outstanding and deserves recognition.β
The awards are based on VETS Indexesβ 65-question survey, which evaluates employers based on five veteran-related categories:
More than 300 organizations participated in the 2021 awards program.
βGeorgia Stateβs recognition by VETS Index as a top employer of veteransΒ is not only a great honor, but also reinforces and aligns with the goals and vision of the university to be a national leader in the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion,β said Mark Eister, director of Georgia Stateβs Military Outreach program. βGeorgia State supports its veteran staff and faculty with groups such as GSUVETS and opportunities for military and veteran networking, camaraderie, career development and an increased awareness of veteransβ trends and issues,β he said.
