Georgia Weather: When Will It Warm Up?
Sweet relief is on the way for metro Atlanta, where people have been cooped up for days with ice and freezing winds hitting north Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA — Metro Atlanta schools were closed for a third straight day on Friday, with days-old snow and ice still frozen on many roadways in the the area. But for the cold-weary, and stir-crazy, this weekend offers some hope.
Temperatures are forecast to get much warmer in north Georgia over the weekend, promising some sweet relief after a week that brought snow, ice and brutally cold wind chills to the region.
While temperatures were still freezing in Atlanta on Friday morning, the day's high was forecast to get all the way up to 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday's high will edge up around 54 degrees and, on Sunday, we're in for a relatively toasty 61 degrees, the weather service said.

The low is expected to get down just below freezing on Friday night, but it's not forecast to get that cold again for the rest of the weekend. Skies should be mostly sunny throughout the weekend as well, so that should help the cause.
Even as things started warming up on Friday, the weather service was warning drivers to be careful. According to a special weather statement, the snow that fell late Tuesday and early Wednesday has compacted into ice across some roadways and, with temperatures staying below freezing, has refused to thaw.

Roads in direct sunlight on Friday should see melting. But moisture could refreeze Friday night, so the weather service urges motorists to use caution.
