Uncle Arrested, Charged In Shooting Death of 4 Year Old DeKalb Girl: Reports

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A four-year-old DeKalb County girl died Tuesday after she was shot Monday night, reported WSB-TV.

The shooting happened at a home on Bouldercrest Road around 10 p.m., according to the news station. The child, identified as Janiyah Jenkins, leaves behind a twin brother.

According to WAGA-TV, police have arrested and charged 27-year-old Levante Cummings with murder in the second degree and second degree cruelty to children. He was the girl's uncle, reported the station.

A police source close to the investigation told WAGA-TV that Cummings was Jenkins' uncle and had fallen asleep on a couch, leaving a gun in the open. At the time of the shooting, there were two children, including Janiyah, in the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
