The difference between green tea and black tea lies in the degree of fermentation. Green tea is relatively raw because it is not fermented, so it retains more plant substances and antioxidants, such as tannins, catechins, etc. Green tea aids weight loss. Catechins may help to prevent certain types of cancer including breast cancer and prostate cancer. Chinese medicine considers green tea is cooling in nature, which clears the heat and detoxifies the liver. Common tea types are Matcha, Long Jing, Bi Luo Chun, Oolong, and Tie Guan Yin.
Black tea is fermented and warming in nature. The flavonoids in black tea prevent heart diseases and stroke. Drinking black tea improves appetite, aids digestion, and alleviates hangovers. It leaves fragrance in the mouth, which eliminates bad breath. In addition, black tea reduces stress and stabilizes mood. Common tea types are Pu'er, earl gray, Lu'an, and Qing Zhuan.
Although there are many benefits of tea, it cannot replace plain water. People who are sensitive to Caffeine can develop heart palpitations and tremors after drinking tea. I recommend taking a maximum of two cups per day and finishing it before 1:00 pm to prevent over stimulation. People who have kidney stones, stomach ulcers, and insomnia are not recommended to drink tea.
