The historic Antioch A.M.E. Church is hosting a History Day for the general public in an effort to preserve the history of a cultural icon. Established in 1868, Antioch was the first church founded by African Americans in Decatur, Georgia, following the Civil War, yet its history has not fully been captured. History Day activities include a talk on the church's history and workshops on genealogy and how to preserve family treasures.
The event is being held in partnership by Antioch A.M.E. Church, the Georgia Humanities Council, the Center for Public History at the University of West Georgia, and Agnes Scott College.
The History Day is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Therefore, an RSVP is encouraged. For the full event schedule and to RSVP, visit http://antiochhistoryday.eventbrite.com.
