Hot Flushes and Low Body Temperature coexist

(Case study- Hot Flushes and Low Body Temperature coexist)

After suffering from endometriosis, ovarian cysts/fibroids, and a total hysterectomy, Ms. B was thrown into menopause at 43. She felt hopeless. Her primary care physician and OBGYN offered limited advice and few options. At her initial visit with me, her symptoms include hot flushes, insomnia, irritability, fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, poor memory, and indigestion.

I focused on the menopause symptoms at the beginning of the treatment. Within four weeks, all the symptoms were under control. No more hot flashes, wild mood swings, or anxiety. I taught her to use food as medicine. With herbs, acupuncture and meditation, she felt like herself again.

As I was happy to see the improvement, Ms. B mentioned she is still tired, the weight has not been dropped much. Also to my surprise, she said her body temperature was 95°F (it is very low, normal average is 96.5°F). I realized the patient’s thyroid function needs to be addressed also. I prescribed a supplement formula “Thyroid Support Complex”, which has nutrients such as zinc, selenium, iodine, Vit D, seaweed to help the thyroid performs better. I also add adaptogens such as ginseng, ashwagandha, eleuthero, rhodiola, and cordyceps. After another four weeks, Ms. B’s symptoms of hypothyroidism were also improved.
