'I'm Going to Die' DeKalb Shooting Victim Says

A DeKalb County man shot in his mother's front yard died before he could give police a description of the person responsible for the attack.

Police responded about 10 p.m. Sunday to the report of a shooting in the 3200 block of Beech Drive. Officer found 25-year-old Damatre Hedrick in his mother's front yard, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics took Hedrick to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries before he could give investigators a good description of his assailant.

A neighbor who came outside after he heard shots said Hedrick was groaning, saying, "I'm going to die, I'm going to die," reports WAGA TV.

Neighbors told Fox 5 the victim had lived with his mother at the home for some time.

Hedrick was described as very friendly and engaging by neighbors.
