The Indigo Girls To Headline Amplify Decatur Music Festival
The local folk rock band will return to live performances as part of the one-day festival that benefits efforts to alleviate homelessness.

DECATUR, GA — The Indigo Girls are coming home. Or, in this case, they are staying home after organizers of the Amplify Decatur Music Festival announced Wednesday that the Grammy-winning folk rock band will headline the event.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 2, on the downtown Decatur Square; tickets for the festival will go on sale on Monday.
The one-day festival will also feature musical acts The Old 97s, Blind Boys of Alabama, The Cactus Blossoms Duo and Michelle Malone, organizers announced. The event will run from 4 p.m.-11 p.m., and tickets range in price from $60-$250.

“It’s been a long time coming, and we are so excited to be back in the Square this year celebrating and recognizing DCM in their heroic efforts to help families facing poverty settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives,” Drew Robinson, president of the Amplify board, said in a news release.
During the Oct. 1-3 weekend, The Decatur Book Festival, Decatur Arts Festival and Decatur Craft Beer Festival are offering a sampling of activities for limited audiences.
The Indigo Girls, made up of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, have been producing music and touring since 1985. During the coronavirus pandemic, the pair — who met in high school and started performing in Decatur and in the greater Atlanta area — did live performances on Facebook Live while releasing their latest studio album, "Look Long."
In a social media post Wednesday, Saliers said she and Ray were looking forward to returning to live performances in a familiar setting.
“2020 was a bummer — it didn’t work out,” Saliers said, announcing the Amplify Decatur performance. “It’s going to be a night of lots of music and sharing and community building and all of the proceeds will go back into Decatur.”
