Inmate Commits Suicide In DeKalb Jail: Sheriff

The Stone Mountain man was facing parole violation and charges of giving false information to law enforcement, the sheriff's office says.

DECATUR, GA — An inmate at DeKalb County Jail has died in an apparent suicide, the sheriff's office said.

Damien Christopher Boyd, 26, of Stone Mountain, was found unresponsive in his cell early on Monday, sheriff's office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said. An emergency crew and DeKalb County Fire and Rescue performed CPR, but Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's office has not yet released an official cause of death in the case.

Boyd was arrested without incident on Sunday at a home in Stone Mountain on a probation violation warrant. He was facing charges of giving false information to law enforcement and no valid driver's license and was scheduled to be extradited to Gwinnett County.
