Kerosene Sold at Decatur Gas Station Potentially Hazardous, Agriculture Commissioner Says

The kerosene may be contaminated with gasoline and react violently if heated.

The Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture is warning consumers who purchased kerosene at a Decatur gas station to avoid using the product.

According to the office of Commissioner Gary Black, the kerosene dispensed from the Chevron Food Mart at 2755 Clairmont Road may be contaminated with gasoline and should not be heated. If the kerosene is used to fuel home heaters or lamps it could explode.

The kerosene pump at the gas station has been shut off until the line can be cleaned and uncontaminated kerosene can be sourced, the commissioner’s office said.
