More Porches, Performers Than Ever Signing Up for Oakhurst Porchfest

DECATUR, GA — More than 50 porches and performers have already registered to participate in the 2016 Oakhurst Porchfest.

Decatur Metro, one of the event's sponsors, said 58 porches and 57 performers have signed up so far for the Saturday, Oct. 8, event.

The very first Porchfest was held in Ithaca, NY, nine years ago, with the concept of having musicians play an afternoon of music on front porches throughout the community. The concept has been spreading ever since, and Decatur’s Oakhurst community had its inaugural event last year. Decatur Metro said Oakhurst’s event was among the top five largest Porchfests ever held in its first year.

The 2015 event was a joint collaboration of resident Scott Doyon, Decatur Metro, and the Decatur Arts Alliance.

Andrew Lincoln, star of the insanely popular AMC series “The Walking Dead,” took time away from his zombie-killing duties to attend last year’s event.
