Higher Calling Christian Academy

Higher Calling Christian Academy (HCCA) is a faith-based learning community located in South DeKalb County dedicated to helping children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively in a safe and nurturing environment. Our Summer Camp 2026 theme, “Choose Your Adventure: A Summer of Discovery at HCCA,” gives families the flexibility to enroll their child for the entire summer or select individual weeks based on their child’s interests. Throughout the summer, campers ages 5–12 will experience engaging, hands-on learning through themed weeks focused on gardening and sustainability, STEAM exploration, sports and teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership, and creative discovery. Campers will participate in exciting activities including outdoor exploration, science experiments, engineering challenges, team games, creative arts, field trips, and youth business projects. A strong focus of our summer program is literacy and enrichment. Campers will participate in daily reading and enrichment activities designed to strengthen comprehension, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. As part of our literacy initiative, campers will visit the local public library twice each week to participate in summer reading opportunities, explore new books, and develop a love for reading and learning. What makes HCCA unique is our commitment to combining fun, enrichment, and purpose in a supportive Christian-centered environment. We strive to support the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of every child while encouraging creativity, confidence, leadership, and exploration. Families appreciate our flexible enrollment options, affordable pricing, extended hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., three meals provided daily, and CAPS acceptance. Our goal is to create a summer experience where children are not only cared for, but inspired to learn, grow, build friendships, and create lasting memories. DECATUR, GA — A man wanted for murder in Chicago was arrested Friday in Decatur.Kenneth Blatcher, 26, was arrested at a Decatur apartment, according to the FBI.     Blatcher was wanted on an attempted murder and aggravated discharge of firearm arrest warrant issued by the Cook County Sheriff's Office, IL, regarding an August 17, 2015 shooting that occurred in Glenwood, IL. Blatcher fled Illinois shortly after the shooting and the FBI began providing assistance.     Blatcher is currently being detained at the DeKalb County jail where he awaits extradition back to Illinois.Image via Shutterstock
