New U-Haul Store Opens in Decatur

DECATUR GA -- A new U-Haul Moving & Storage has opened on Memorial Drive in Decatur.

The 13.75-acre property features 145,978 square feet of space and is directly across the street from the Wal-Mart Supercenter. Located in an area known as Avondale Square, the U-Haul building was constructed in 1969 and housed many businesses, including a furniture store.

“The best part about taking over this building is U-Haul will now be able fill the entire 13 acres of empty space and serve more and more customers at lower cost,” said Raquel Bryan, general manager of U-Haul Moving & Storage of Decatur.

U-Haul closed on the property in September. U-Haul was leasing the property prior to that, so customers have had access to truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers since April.

This year the facility’s transformation into a full-service U-Haul store will be completed with the addition of propane, hitch installation, RV parking/storage and 200 climate-controlled indoor storage units.

“This store is very important to the community,” Bryan added. “It gives the community not only needed services, but peace of mind because a well-known, industry leader is here to stay.”
