Officer Called to Stabbing Shoots Dog, Man

A woman stabbed in a domestic dispute was taken to the hospital; a man who reportedly pointed a gun at police was also injured.

A DeKalb County Police officer responding to a 911 report that a woman had been stabbed used his weapon to shoot and kill a dog, then shot and wounded a man in an apartment.

Police were called to the Marquis Forest Apartments on Pinetree Circle off Covington Highway about 10 p.m. Monday to investigate a domestic dispute.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a large dog tried to attack the responding officer and then a man threatened the same officer with a gun.

Authorities told WSB TV that the officer ordered the man to drop his gun, then shot the man in the stomach after he refused to give up the weapon.

A woman injured with a stab wound and the man shot by the officer were taken to a local hospital. A third person suspected in the stabbing was caught soon after.

The names of the parties involved have not been released.

The officer who fired his service weapon is on administrative leave while the inicident is investigated, reports WSB TV.
