🌱 Officer Not Charged + State Charter School Deadline Approaches

Welcome back, Decatur-Avondale Estates. I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Let's have at it.

First, today's weather:

A couple of t-storms; humid. High: 85 Low: 71.

Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. The DeKalb County Police Department officer that fatally shot Mathew Zadok Williams will reportedly not be charged. The incident in question occurred in April 2021 inside Williams home. According to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, the lethal use of force was justified. (Decaturish.com)
  2. Are you growing increasingly frustrated with online home listings and are seeking an alternative?   3. The Museum School of Avondale Estates' charter with DeKalb County Schools will expire on Jul. 1. The deadline is an important one in the school's attempt to become a state charter school. The Georgia Board of Education met on Wednesday to discuss the second approval of the Museum School's charter renewal. This is a rather complex issue with multiple legal threats issued between the school, DeKalb County Schools, and the Georgia Board of Education. (Decaturish.com)

  • The DeKalb County Police Athletic League (PAL) will be hosting an After Dark Basketball Summer League. The league is meant to build connections between the department and the community's youth. The program will be every Thursday and Tuesday from 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the YMCA on Snapfinger Road in Decatur. (DeKalb County)
