Hello, Decatur-Avondale Estates. I'm here in your inbox per usual to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Hope you all have a great day.

A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 85 Low: 65.

Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:

  1. State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) supports a call for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the DeKalb County Commission District 2 election, the race that required a hand count and resulted in a delayed certification of election results. New Senate
Bill 441, which passed the Georgia General Assembly in April, allows for the GBI to investigate voter fraud allegations. In a letter to GBI Director Vic Reynolds, Oliver said she "believes the GBI is the best option for an analysis of the unique facts of the DeKalb election for County Commission District 2 that initially declared inaccurate results." (Decaturish.com )
  2. The City of Decatur's Revised 2021-2022 and Proposed 2022-2023 budgets are available for public review. The City Commission will vote on the budget on June 21. Public feedback on the budget is now open. (City of Decatur)
  3. Chef Deborah VanTrece taught culinary arts to 25 DeKalb County School District high school students in a workshop held at The Art Institute of Atlanta on June 8. VanTrece owns Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours and Edible Art. She has been featured on the Food Network, HULU, EATER, Thrillist and Bon Appetite. (Decaturish.com )

Are you a Decatur-Avondale Estates resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
