Hello, everybody. Carla Varner here with your Thursday edition of the Decatur-Avondale Estates Daily, filled with all the things you need to know about what's going on in town. Let's have at it...
First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- The driver of an SUV driving on I-20 Tuesday morning lost control causing the vehicle to crash and roll down an embankment. Police reported that nine people were in the vehicle. One person died, another is in critical condition, and the others were treated for minor injuries. (Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch)
- DeKalb County opened cooling centers, including recreation centers and libraries, on Jul. 6 due to a heat advisory. A heat advisory is issued when the temperature is expected to hit or go higher than 103 degrees, or when the air temperature is expected to be 105 degrees or higher, said the National Weather Service's Peachtree City Forecast Office. Those staying in the cooling centers must follow the county's COVID-19 protocols which include wearing a mask, social distancing, and doing a temperature check. (Decaturish.com)
- DeKalb officials are planning to cancel the rest of a multimillion-dollar county sewer contract with CamKen Consulting, whose founder pled guilty to federal fraud charges. On Tuesday, a formal resolution to terminate the contract was introduced — just weeks after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the county was still doing business with CamKen, which was nearly two years after founder Chandra Norton was accused of stealing almost $8 million from the federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The resolution would cancel the remainder of a $2.8-million contract. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
