Pallookaville Has New Owners

Founder Jim Stacy will still be on the team at the funky Avondale Estates restaurant.

AVONDALE ESTATES, GA -- Pallookaville has new owners.

But celebrity-chef Jim Stacy, whose over-the-top personality infuses every inch of the guilty-pleasure eatery on the corner of Avondale Road and North Clarendon, will remain part of the team.

“Pallookaville is not Pallookaville without Jim Stacy,” James Maggard, one of the new owners, told Decaturish.

Maggard and partner Jason Hylton are the team behind Matador Cantina in Oakhurst and Local No. 7 and FiveSevenTwo in Tucker.

They recently purchased Pallookaville, which Stacy put up for sale late last year. The restaurant is currently closed for renovations, but both Stacy and the new ownership team say most changes will be behind the scenes.

Stacy, who started Pallookaville as a food truck selling gourmet corn dogs, will be an employee of Maggard and Hylton’s.

“All the recipes, all the crazy stuff will still be me,” he said to Decaturish. “I just no longer will operate it.”

The pair also will own Pallookaville’s planned satellite location in Little 5 Points.

A fixture in Atlanta entertainment circles for years, Stacy had stints running the Star Community Bar and Starlight Drive-In before opening Pallookaville’s brick-and-mortar location in Avondale.

He is the host of the Emmy-winning public-broadcast show “Get Delicious!” was a judge on Destination America’s “Deep Fried Masters” and hosts “Offbeat Eats” on the Cooking Channel.
