Robert McKenzie was stopped by police on Saturday after reportedly chasing a cyclist in Decatur.

CLARKSTON, GA — A convicted sex offender whose record stretches back several years in Decatur and Atlanta was stopped by Clarkston police over the weekend.

Clarkston Police Chief Christine Hudson said Robert McKenzie was stopped by police on Saturday, Oct. 1, but no charges were filed.

"Our officers were dispatched by DeKalb Police of a suspicious person riding a bike and following a female cyclist," said Hudson. "Our officers located the suspicious person and talked with him. They did not have enough to make an arrest."

In March 2010, Atlanta police arrested McKenzie for carrying a knife with a blade over three inches long and in violation of city ordinance. His arrest followed complaints by cyclists that a man, described as homeless, had been following women as they jogged or cycled in the city.

During the 2010 arrest, an Atlanta police officer "disposed of 'contaminated' rags and pornographic pictures that McKenzie had in his pockets."

In 2011, Avondale Estates police issued a warning to local residents that McKenzie "has displayed behavior that may indicate a degree of being mentally impaired. Records indicate that the person has been charged with sexual crimes and being armed in the past."
