Protesters Camp Out at Courthouse Over Police Shooting

The protest calls for an indictment in the case of Anthony Hill, a veteran who was shot by police while he was unarmed and naked.

DECATUR, GA -- About 14 people spent Monday night camped out at DeKalb County Courthouse, calling for an indictment in the police-shooting of Anthony Hill.

Hill, 27, was shot and killed by DeKalb County police officer Robert Olsen in March. Hill was naked, knocking on doors of an apartment complex and crawling on his hands and knees, according to police reports.

Nelini Stamp, co-director of the advocacy organization Rise Up Georgia, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that protesters arrived at the square at about 8 p.m. Monday and slept overnight on what turned out to be the coldest day of the year.

“We intend to be here every night and all day until the grand jury gives their decision,” Stamp told the paper.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James has said he will ask a grand jury to indict Olsen on charges including murder, aggravated assault and making a false statement.
