Robber Shoots Gas Station Clerk in Head, One in Custody

A clerk who complied with a robber's demands was shot in the head Monday morning, authorities said. A person of interest is in custody.

A gas station clerk who gave cash to a robber in an effort to stave off injury is in critical condition after the thief shot the employee in the head.

The armed robbery happened about 3 a.m. Monday at the Texaco station on Flat Shoals Road in south DeKalb County.

An employee who hid during the robbery told WSB TV the clerk handed over cash, but the robber shot him in the forehead anyway.

Shawn Mehra, a friend of the unidentified victim, saw the store’s surveillance camera footage of the shooting.

“He was on his knees, begging for his life. He was like, ‘Just leave me. I gave you all I could.’ (The gunman) started walking and he just turned around and shot him,” Mehra told WSBB.

The victim was taken to Atlanta Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Police have a person of interest in custody after the robbery and shooting, reports WXIA TV. The person detained appears to match the description given by witnesses of the shooting suspect.
