Scam Call Going Around DeKalb County: Sheriff

Victims are being told to bring cash to the DeKalb County Jail to avoid being arrested for past citations, Sheriff Jeff Mann said.

DECATUR, GA — A telephone scam is going around DeKalb County, the sheriff's office is warning residents.

In a twist to similar phony calls, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says that, this time, victims are being told to meet the caller at DeKalb County Jail with cash to avoid being arrested for outstanding citations.

The scammers are identifying themselves as deputies working for DeKalb Sheriff Jeff Mann. They are not, his office says, and never will be.

Anyone who receives a phony call seeking money should just hang up, the sheriff's office said.

"As with most scams," the news release says, "the caller is using fear to get people to respond."
