Scottdale Early Learning, Inc. is the New Name for DeKalb's Premier Education-Oriented Non-Profit for Young Children

The new name more clearly communicates Scottdale Early Learning Inc.'s mission of providing family supportive early childhood education.

The Scottdale Child Development and Family Resource Center has shortened its name to Scottdale Early Learning, Inc., to more clearly communicate its mission of providing family supportive early childhood education for low and moderate income families. The NAEYC accredited organization offers numerous services to families in the Scottdale area of DeKalb County, including the Parents as Teachers Program (PAT) and the Clarkston READY School, and operates the award-winning Scottdale School for children up to age five (www.scottdale.org).

“As Scottdale Early Learning, Inc. has expanded its offerings to meet the needs of the greater community, our Board of Directors felt a strategic name change would highlight our ongoing focus on the importance of early childhood education,” said Maryum C. Lewis, executive director of the organization. “Along with the name, we have a new logo and a comprehensive new website created by a team of talented digital marketing professionals who donated their time through 48in48, where some of Atlanta’s most innovative thinkers built 48 websites for 48 nonprofits in 48 hours.”

Founded in 1977 in DeKalb County’s historic Scottdale community, Scottdale Early Learning, Inc. is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. In addition to operating the Scottdale School, Scottdale Early Learning, Inc. offers the international PAT program which provides the information, support and encouragement parents need to help children up to age five develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. One of the organization’s newer programs is the Clarkston READY School, a free, half-day early learning and family engagement program for Arabic speaking children age 3-4 in the Clarkston, Georgia area.

“Throughout its nearly 40-year history, Scottdale Early Learning, Inc. has provided innovative programs that not only provide high-quality education for young children, but also support their families and the surrounding community,” said Lewis. “Our work is funded in part by gifts from private foundations, government grants, organizations such as the United Way, and contributions from corporations and individual donors. We are excited that our new name and website will help us more clearly tell our story.”
