Second Life Celebrates 4th Anniversary and $400,000 in Grants to Animal Charities
Celebrate Second Life Upscale Thrift Store's 4th Anniversary on Valentine's Day

We just opened our doors! Wait, it can’t be our fourth anniversary already? Well, yes, it can. Second Life Upscale Resale in Avondale Estates has been “in business” for four years and we’re celebrating having given grants of over $400,000 to animal rescue charities and spay/neuter programs by thanking our supporters with our 4th Anniversary Celebration on Valentine’s Day.
On Saturday, February 14th, come to Second Life and show your love for animals by supporting this amazing non-profit organization -- and having a great time too. We are having store-wide sales in both the Main Store and Furniture, Decor and More store where just about everything will be 40% off! That’s savings! And when you shop at Second Life, you’re giving homeless pets a second chance at life by helping Second Life provide grants to animal charities. From 11 a.m. to 2p.m., there will be snacks, coupon give-aways, and throughout the day, a pet food drive to benefit “Pet Buddies Food Pantry” with your donations of bags of dog food, cat food, and kitty litter to help struggling families keep their pets at home.
When Second Life was founded by husband and wife team Tanya Mahrous and Toby Tobias in 2011, the goal was to offer an upscale thrift store that would provide much-needed cash grants to animal rescue organizations

With the grants earmarked for spay/neuter programs, an estimated 1,500 animals have been “fixed”, keeping unwanted animals from being born and suffering. Thanks to generous supporters from across Metro Atlanta, Second Life has made grants to animal charities in excess of $400,000 over the past four years! Grants have been awarded to organizations specifically to fund spay/neuter surgeries for pets belonging to low-income families, for vetting and medical care of animals being rescued from shelters, and to support trap, neuter, and return (TNR) efforts for feral cat colonies.
According to Tobias, more than 80,000 animals are euthanized in greater Atlanta shelters annually. “There simply are not enough homes and the problem will only get worse unless more dogs and cats are spayed and neutered,” he says. “These grants will result in more and more dogs and cats being ‘fixed,’ significantly reducing the pet overpopulation in Atlanta.”

“We couldn’t do it without our supporters: our customers, our volunteers, and our donors,” say Tanya and Toby. “Each person plays such an important role by helping these animal rescue organizations give homeless pets a second chance at life. And everyone has such a great time finding unique bargains!” All the items sold in our stores are donated with the net proceeds benefiting the animal charities. We offer people the opportunity to help homeless animals and be a part of the pet overpopulation problem simply by cleaning out their closets.
