Stone Mountain Home to More Syrian Refugees Than NYC and LA

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — Stone Mountain has received more Syrian refugees than two of America's largest cities, combined.

Since October 1, 2015, which marked the start of the current fiscal year, 72 Syrian refugees have been placed in Stone Mountain, according State Department data as reported by the Daily Caller. Los Angeles has resettled 45 Syrian refugees, while New York City has resettled nine.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Stone Mountain has a population of 6,109 people and a poverty level of 22.5 percent.

Also, about five percent of the city's population is made up of refugees from other places. A total of 299 refugees have been resettled in Stone Mountain over the last year mostly from African nations such as Somalia, Eritrea and the Central African Republic; as well as Iraq, Pakistan, Burma and elsewhere.

Neighboring Stone Mountain is the city of Clarkston, home to what Conservative America has named one of 18 terrorist sanctuary cities and also home to what has been called the "Worst Community in America."

Brannen Hill, a rundown condominium complex in Clarkston that is home to numerous immigrants and refugees, has gained national attention for its harsh conditions.

Conservative America also criticizes Clarkston Mayor Edward Terry for saying that his city is willing to accept more refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
