Stonecrest Mayor Resigns Hours Before Facing Federal Fraud Charges

Stonecrest Mayor Jason Larry is accused of stealing more than $650,000 in COVID-19 relief funds.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary announced Tuesday that he would resign the same day he was scheduled to appear in court on federal fraud charges, reported the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Lary is accused of stealing more than $650,000 in COVID-19 relief funds that he used to pay the mortgage on his lakehouse.

He’s being charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit federal program theft and federal program theft.
