Suspect ID'ed In Shooting At DeKalb Library

A man was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a Decatur library, and a suspect remains at large, police say.

DECATUR, GA — A man is facing aggravated assault charges after being accused of shooting another man late Monday afternoon at the DeKalb County Public Library in Decatur, police said.

Officers were called to a shooting around 5:15 p.m. at the Sycamore Street library. Decatur Police said they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the library.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police and DeKalb County officials said. His status was unknown Tuesday morning, and police have not revealed a motive.

They have identified a suspect as Medicus Brown, 44, of Decatur. He remains at large, but police said active warrants against him include charges of aggravated assault with the intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

shaken by this incident,” DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said in a news release.

The library was closed Tuesday. In the release, DeKalb County Public Library Director Alison L. Weissinger said it prioritizes the safety of library staff and patrons.

“We are taking the necessary steps to support our employees and to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place as the investigation continues," she said in the release.
