Take A Dog To Dinner In DeKalb Through 'Home For The Pawlidays' Program

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Adopt a dog in time for the holidays. LifeLine Animal Project’s “Home for the Pawlidays” program runs from Nov. 19-26.

LifeLine will match Pawlidays hosts with compatible shelter dogs to take home for seven days. Shelter staff will provide all needed supplies, such as food, a bowl, a crate and an “adopt me” bandana or harness. The host just needs to provide the love.

A total of 50 dogs will be participating from LifeLine shelters, including DeKalb County Animal Services, Fulton County Animal Services and the LifeLine Community Animal Center, according to a news release. At the end of their Pawlidays week, hosts return their dogs to the shelters just in time for LifeLine’s fee-waived Black Friday Adoptions weekend, November 26 - 29.

Pawlidays hosts will provide employees with valuable insights into the pets’ personalities, which helps staff to better match them with potential adopters. Last year, more than half of the dogs who were taken “Home for the Pawlidays” were either adopted or fostered long-term.

According to LifeLine’s Fulton County Animal Services Foster Supervisor Michelle Harmon, there are numerous benefits for all participants.

“People participating in Home for the Pawlidays get to experience the love of a dog over the holidays, which can be a lonely time for many, while doing something great for the pups,” she said in a statement. “Not only are they giving the dogs a needed break from the shelter, but they’re also providing them with more exposure to potential adopters simply by taking them on walks, sharing pictures and providing information they learn about the pets.”
