A Lithonia man is behind bars at the DeKalb County jail on Tuesday following his arrest for the murder of his elementary school teacher girlfriend last week.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Antoine Hood called 911 on Feb. 17 to report that his girlfriend, Candace McGriff, had shot herself to keep him from leaving her. Police discovered McGriff, a PE teacher at C.J. Hicks Elementary School in Conyers, dead in the bedroom of the couple’s apartment with a gunshot wound in her chest.

Police questioned Hood and subsequently released him. However, medical examiners soon discovered that McGriff’s fatal wound could only have been inflicted by another person, FOX 5 says. A warrant was filed for Hood’s arrest on Feb. 19.
Hood was arrested at the Lithonia apartment complex on the morning of Feb. 20 when he returned with another woman in tow. He is now facing one charge of felony murder and is being held without bond, jail records show.
