Teen Hit-And-Run Victim Identified: DeKalb Police

DeKalb police identified the 15-year-old killed in a hit-and-run accident, but have yet to identify the driver of the car that hit him.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County police identified the teenage boy killed during a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning, but have yet to identify the driver of the car that hit him.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a 15-year-old boy — identified Thursday as Quartez Mender — was walking near the entrance of Orchard Walk Apartments, located on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur, when he was struck by an unknown car. The driver fled the scene.

The vehicle is believed to have damage to the front passenger side. Anyone with information is asked to contact the DeKalb County Traffic Specialist at 770-724-7610 or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta to remain anonymous at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

No other information about the car or driver was provided.

Mender attended McNair High School, the DeKalb County School District told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“The entire DeKalb County School District community, and especially the McNair High School family, mourns the passing of one of our students,” the district said in an emailed statement to The AJC. “Our hearts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
