Just like the City of Decatur Schools, The Museum School students headed back to class today. There were lots of happy parents (and a few kids) all around. I, myself, had a few mixed emotions.
Why, you ask? First and foremost, I'm THRILLED that we have all three of our girls at the SAME school for the first time - EV-ER! No more logistical coordination of drop-offs, pickups, and carpool bartering. It's a one-stop drop/go/pickup. And it will be this way for the next five years - WOO HOO!
The "boo hoo" part comes in when I realized that my youngest is now old enough to be enrolled in Kindergarten. This means she's not a baby anymore. She's a little girl, who will soon be reading, writing, doing double-digit math, making tons of new friends, getting involved in brand-new activities, procrastinating with her homework, asking for a phone, wanting to hang out with ONLY her friends, discovering "boys" , getting her learner's permit - then driver's license, looking at colleges... Wow, I went down a path, but you get the picture.
In the blink of an eye, they have grown up. And all too fast.
So, today, I'll pause for just a moment. I'll try and remember today for what it really is -- the first day in a brand new year of learning, friendships, and educational possibilities. I'm so very thankful for The Museum School and what it has meant to our family -- and to so many families in the entire Decatur and Avondale Estates community. And with that, I hope everyone has a wonderul, new school year!
