As proponents of a new city of Lavista Hills tout the completion of its citizen task force project, four local lawmakers are hosting a town hall on Wednesday night to discuss the issue.
State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver and state Sen. Elena Parent, who represent portions of Decatur, along with fellow Democratic lawmakers Michele Henson and Scott Holcomb, are hosting the event at Lakeside High School, beginning at 6:45 pm.
Holcomb is serving as moderator of they event, which he says will allow citizens living in the boundaries of the proposed city to hear from groups for and against its creation.

Last week, LaVista Hills YES! announced the completion of its 12-week citizen task force project. President Allen Venet said more than 50 members of the community volunteered early this summer to research and learn more about the proposed city.
“This is just one part of an ongoing process which invites and honors citizen input”, said Venet. “Their participation bodes well for the creation of a vibrant new city which welcomes the ideas and input of its residents.”

If the referendum vote scheduled for Tuesday, November 3 passes, the new City of LaVista Hills will become Georgia’s 11th largest city. These reports will then be made available to the proposed city’s governing body, which will consist of 6 part-time Councilpersons and a Mayor. Municipal elections for these positions will be held on the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary election day in March, 2016. Some of the general recommendations made by each Task Force are below.
