Good morning, Decatur-Avondale! Like many of you, the Patch staff will be taking some time off to enjoy the holiday this weekend. Your next newsletter will be in your inbox on Tuesday morning. Now, here's everything you need to know about what's going on in town today.
First, today's weather:
Humid with a thunderstorm. High: 89 Low: 72.
Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- A disgruntled former employee at the Java Monkey Coffee Shop in Decatur was convicted of arson on Thursday. The 32-year-old was sentenced to 30 years for the 2018 arson. The man was fired just days before the building was set on fire, which the owner has vowed to rebuild. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Let's all go to the movies, let's all go to the movies... DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department will be hosting movies in the park in July. Every Wednesday, a different movie will be featured in a different location. Folks are encouraged to bring a blanket or a lawn chair to the showings. - Two I-285 lanes were closed on Friday when a tractor-trailer caught on fire. According to DeKalb County fire officials, the truck caught on fire around 5:44 a.m. The fire was near the I-20 exit, which forced the larger lane closure. As of Friday evening, no injuries have been reported. (Patch)
