Tucker Native Selected for AP All-Bowl Team

It’s not often a freshman football recruit becomes a consistent starter in his first year on the team, let alone earn a spot on the Associated Press All-Bowl Team -- but that’s just what happened for Tucker’s Dominick Sanders.

Playing defensive back for University of Georgia, Sanders’s strong 2014 season performance -- along with a few key interceptions and tackles during the Belk Bowl -- caught the publication’s eye.

The Associated Press All-Bowl team gathers college football’s best of the best, curating a team that reflects the season’s star players after all 38 bowl games conclude.

Sanders was on the All-Bowl team list released last week by Associated Press sports writer Steve Megargee with contributions from fellow AP writers David Brandt, John Marshall, Rusty Miller, Eric Olson, Ralph D. Russo and Kurt Voigt.

The wire service highlighted Sanders’s two major interceptions in Georgia’s Belk Bowl victory against Louisville. Sanders made a 40-yard return to Louisville’s 9-yard line after his first intercepted pass and a 42-yard return on his second, as well as a key tackle in the game’s third quarter, according to his 2014 ESPN game log.

As a member of the Tucker High School football team, Sanders played running back, rushing for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns; receiver, with 273 yards and 3 touchdowns; as well as kick return, cornerback and safety, Bleacher Report recapped.

Although he originally committed to play for University of Central Florida, Sanders de-committed midway through the recruiting season and was rushed with offers from University of Georgia, Auburn University and University of Missouri, reveals the Bleacher Report article.

Interestingly, Sanders is the younger brother of Chris Sanders, who also started out as a true freshman at University of Georgia in 2011. Chris was released from the team and dismissed from the university after an incident of dorm theft, according to a 2012 report from ESPN.

Dominick Sanders joins Georgia Tech senior and outside linebacker Shaq Mason as the sole Georgia players to make the AP All-Bowl cut.
