UPDATE: Woman Shot During Carjacking in Decatur

After having dinner at a restaurant on the Decatur Square, two out of towners were robbed at gunpoint and one shot early Sunday.

The suspects fled in the victims' red 2004 Toyota Tacoma.

The victims, Amy Schuster and Patrick Hagan from St. Simons Island, Ga., were at their car at approximately 12:30 a.m., when the incident happened near Decatur High School in the 300 block of North McDonough Street.

Both victims' cell phones were stolen, so they flagged down a car. The driver, Juan Martinez, apparently called the police and transported them to DeKalb Medical, according to Deputy Chief Keith Lee.

According to Lee in a release, "the female victim was shot once in the lower abdomen and was treated at DeKalb Medical. ... The male victim was struck (with fists) several times, but did not receive serious injuries."

He said both victims were in their mid-30s.

"This is not a pattern we have seen," Lee said. "But it is serous enough we wanted to alert everyone."

The two armed robbery suspects are described as young African-American males with thin builds. Lee said the investigation is ongoing and the female victim is still in the hospital with "serious but non-threatening injuries."
