Unable to Make the Commitment of Pet Adoption Right Now? Consider Fostering Pets Before Transport for a Few Weeks!

And meet a pet who we think is perfect. Her name is Mary Jane, and she is waiting to meet you right now at LifeLine's DeKalb Shelter.

Sometimes you're in a situation where you simply cannot have a pet in your life permanently, but you'd still like to help rescue a shelter pet. Maybe you'll be moving soon or you'll be traveling too much, or maybe you have too many responsibilities on your plate to commit to another animal for their life. If that sounds like you, LifeLine Animal Project has a great alternative.

We are looking for people to foster shelter pets for two-to-six weeks before they go on transport from our DeKalb County Animal Services shelter to uncrowded no-kill shelters in the NE. The pet would stay with you for a defined period of time (a few weeks) and then would be on his or her way to a new life. We are getting in between 20 and 40 animals every single day at our DeKalb County Animal Services shelter, so by doing this, you'll be making space for another shelter animal and helping two pets!

Of course you may also foster those pets not scheduled for transport for longer periods. Heck, we'll even throw in a large crate and bag of dog food to get you started. And any dog who is available on our site for adoption may be fostered, so look around here if you're interested.

Additionally, we need people to foster very pregnant or nursing moms and their babies, as well as puppies and kittens. A shelter with over 400 animals is an easy place for these babies to get sick due to their immature immune systems, but fostering them keeps them healthy until they are old enough to be adopted.

Please consider fostering! It's a great experience for the whole family and teaches kids about patience, kindness and responsibility. Kids will also gain an appreciation for animals that will stay with them forever. For more info, please contact foster@dekalbanimalservices.com.

Of course, we always have need for adopters too, especially at this time of year when our shelters are the most crowded. There are so many great animals who you can adopt for a $10 adoption fee this month, including our Pet of the Week.

LifeLine’s DeKalb Shelter Pet of the Week: Mary Jane

Our Pet of the Week, Mary Jane, has all the qualities you could want in a new family member. She is calm, loving, happy to go for a walk or cuddle on the couch, and she is loyal. We think Mary Jane is about seven year’s old, and she is super sweet and has an adorable, expressive face. Mary Jane is ready to leave the noisy shelter and go to her new forever family. And once you adopt her, she is the kind of girl who will never let you forget how grateful she is. Adopt her during our August Tail End of Summer Promotion, and you’ll pay only $10 for her adoption fee, including her spay, microchip and vaccines. To meet her simply visit at 845 Camp Road in Decatur, email adoption@dekalbanimalservices.com or call (404) 294-2165. To view other animals available for adoption, please click here.
