Vote Tampering Alleged in Lavista Hills Cityhood Referendum

The fight to create a city of Lavista Hills may not be over after all.

The Georgia Secretary of State and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are looking into claims of voting irregularities that are alleged to have occurred during Tuesday’s election, reports the AJC.

WSB is reporting that a DeKalb election supervisor claims to have found a stray memory card from the Briarlake Elementary precinct.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp is asking the Center for Elections at Kennesaw State University to help in the investigation.

The LaVista Hills cityhood proposal failed by 136 votes. If a judge finds any irregularities that could change the outcome, Tuesday’s results could be invalidated.

If the referendum had passed, Lavista Hills would have become DeKalb’s largest city, with 66,000 residents.
