Weather Alert: Watch Out for Black Ice Decatur

Patches of slick roads could be seen throughout metro Atlanta through Tuesday morning.

There won’t be snow, but there could be black ice in metro Atlanta by Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service says.

The system that has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory for accumulating snow in the northeast Georgia mountains may also cause slick roads to the south.

The weather service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook alert at 4 p.m., saying patchy black ice could form on roadways as overnight temperatures dip below freezing as far south as Atlanta. The alert is in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Lows are expected to be in the high 20’s in most places in metro Atlanta.

The weather service said isolated dangerous driving conditions could be seen northward from a line roughly along I-20 through the metro.

A Wind Advisory, calling for winds gusting to 35 mph, is already in effect for most of north and central Georgia until 8 p.m. Monday.
