🌱 What's Behind The Recent COVID-19 Surge + Upcoming Open Houses

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Decatur-Avondale Estates.

Hello, everybody! It's Thursday in Decatur-Avondale Estates and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in town. Here's the lowdown...

First, today's weather:

A heavy t-storm in the p.m. High: 86 Low: 72.

Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. What's behind the recent surge in COVID-19 cases? Dr. Daniel Ralston, a family medicine doctor in Decatur, took some time to discuss the issues with the most recent mutations of the disease. According to him, about 60 percent of cases right now are BA.5 cases, while 20 percent are BA.4. As to the surge, he says it's due to gatherings for Independence Day. The CDC recommends everyone complete a primary series of vaccinations and at least one booster to protect themselves against a disease unlikely to stop spreading anytime soon. (CBS Atlanta)
  2. Looking for a property to call your own? Patch put together a list of five open houses happening on Saturday and Sunday. A 1,945 square foot home is going for $549,000 on Desmond Drive. Another home, with 1,118 square feet, is going for $448,000 on Mount Olive Drive. To see all the times and locations of the open houses, click the link. (Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch)
  3. DeKalb County police are looking for three suspects who stole a car with a child inside on Tuesday night. According to police, officers responded to a call just after 10:00 p.m. The three individuals stole the running vehicle outside a home on Mill Lake Circle, realized there was an 11-year-old in the vehicle, and pushed the child out before speeding away and crashing the car at Martin Road and Post Road Pass.
