What's Open, What's Closed in Decatur on New Year's Day 2014?

Malls and movie theaters will be open Thursday, but government offices and other services will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s holiday.

Entertainment:
- AMC 16 Theaters at North DeKalb Mall -- Open Jan. 1 with showings starting at 9:35 a.m. and ending at 10:10 p.m.
- Woodlands Garden -- Open Jan. 1 during daylight hours.
- DeKalb History Center Museum -- Closed Dec. 31, but hosting Dance Hall Decatur New Year’s Eve Wednesday night; closed Jan. 1.
- North DeKalb Mall -- Open on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Perimeter Mall -- Open on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

City Services:

- All Decatur city offices and administrative services are closed Jan. 1 and 2; offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5.
Schools:
- All Decatur City Schools are closed through Jan. 2.
County Government:
- All DeKalb County government offices close on Jan. 1 and reopen on Jan. 2.
Public Transit:
Dec. 31: MARTA trains will run a weekday schedule with extra rail service as needed to get customers to and from events. The last trains on New Year’s Eve for the Red, Gold and Blue lines will leave from Five Points Station at about 2 a.m. On the Red and Gold Lines, trains will run about every 12 minutes throughout the day to end of service, with both lines running continuously from North Springs and Doraville Stations south to the Airport.
MARTA bus service: Will operate on a modified Saturday schedule on New Year’s Eve, using the schedule for normal Saturday bus service. In addition, routes 24, 143 and 148, which do not normally operate on the weekend, will operate on their weekday schedules on New Year’s Eve. Customers can go to http://bit.ly/1Cz9GY2, click on their bus route, choose a corresponding schedule – such as weekday, Saturday, Sunday or Holiday – and plan their trips accordingly.
- Jan. 1: All MARTA bus and rail lines operate on a Sunday schedule.
Libraries:
- All DeKalb County Public Library branches are closed on Jan. 1.
