DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A local council intends to suspend the Douglas County coroner, who has been the focal point of recent criticism, for six months after a vote Monday, WAGA-TV reported.
The Coroner's Training Council plans to issue a letter of intent to both suspend Douglas County Coroner Renee Godwin and take away the certification of her deputy, Carmen Chandler, the news outlet reported.
Godwin has been accused of "office mismanagement, sloppy work and poor communication with grieving families," WAGA-TV reported.
Additionally, in June, she reportedly acknowledged a judge had not sworn in her deputies.
In 2019, a grand jury advised Godwin be removed from her post due to "unethical and unprofessional practices," WAGA-TV reported. Godwin was reportedly not removed at that time.
