"James was more than a dedicated employee. He was a good man, a valued member of our sheriff's office family and a friend to many. His kindness and character touched everyone around him," authorities said.

They added Davidson served with respect, dignity and compassion.

The sheriff's office asked for residents to pray for Davidson's family and friends.

"Rest in peace, Bailiff Davidson. Thank you for your faithful service. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten," authorities said.
