Best Tasting Chili Named After Douglasville Cook-Off

Other awards included Best Booth, Most Sold Chili and Spiciest Chili at a recent cook-off and festival that featured costume contests.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The Douglasville Masonic Lodge has the best tasing chili in town - that is, according to the recent results of a cook-off in the area.

The 30th Annual Chili Cook-Off was held Saturday and included winners of multiple categories, including best tasting chili.

The event was organized by the Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County at Douglas County High School and the Cultural Arts Center. The CAC revealed all of the winners Monday.

"The competition this year was FIERCE, and each win was well-deserved. Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the fall weather with us in support of the arts in Douglas County," organizers said in a Facebook post published Monday.

After counting thousands of tickets, organizers said Douglasville Masonic Lodge earned the Best Tasting Chili award.

"Tom got best tasting for the chili cookoff in Douglasville. Congratulations. Thanks to all that came out and helped," the lodge said in a Facebook posted published Saturday night.

Other winners included True Amor (Spiciest Chili award), Douglas County Parks and Recreation (Best Booth award) and Christ Cutz BBQ (Most Sold Chili award).

"We brought the chili, the fun, and brought home BEST BOOTH! DCPR had a great time at yesterday's Chili Cook-Off, spending time with our community and serving up some delicious chili! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and to our staff who helped bring it all together," parks and recreation officials said in a Facebook post published Sunday.

The theme of the department's booth was Chick-fil-A, complementing their sentiment, "Eat-Mor-Chicken Chili."

Alex Tedder of Daybright, DeShawn Billinger of McDonalds and Jamila Smith of Chick-fil-A were expert judges at the cook-off, organizers said.

This year, the council said, the gathering expanded into a four-hour cook-off and fall festival as part of both the event's 30th anniversary and the CAC's 40th anniversary.

It also included a costume contest. Winners were as follows:

The costume contest was judged by School Board District 3 Representative Chauntis Jenkins Floyd, Donna Barr of Miss America, Miss Douglas County pageant-winner Shacori Valentine from the Junior League of Douglas County.

Organizers say festivities included a scarecrow contest that offered cash prizes. The scarecrows will be displayed outside the CAC until Oct. 31.

While there is time to vote for the People's Choice award, other winners were as follows:

Proceeds from the chili cook-off will support art classes and programs, including the council's ARTSventures program, which brings curriculum-based performances to local schools.
