'Beulah Creek' Wraps Up at Dunwoody Nature Center

“Beulah Creek” wraps up its Theatre in the Park performances at the Dunwoody Nature Center this weekend.

The story takes place during the summer of 1936 amidst a Baptist camp meeting in South Georgia. When the pastor’s wife, Ruth, meets Iris, the WPA photographer documenting the revival, an unexpected relationship develops and challenges the societal norms of the time. A chorus of women sing Southern hymns and speak biblical text to give Ruth a means of expressing her feelings. When the revival participants grow suspicious of the relationship, Ruth must choose between Iris and the community in which she was raised.

Written by Atlanta playwright Neeley Gossett (2013 finalist, Alliance Theatre Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition) specifically for the Dunwoody Nature Center, this outdoor theatre performance will immerse audiences in its story.

“Beulah Creek” will be performed on the main stage in the meadow of Dunwoody Park Sept. 19-21. All show times are 8 p.m.

The play features performances by Daryl Fazio, Mary Saville, Julie Puckett, Liz Schad, Rachel Frawley and Elin Rose Hill. Nichole Palmietto is the play’s director.
