As of Sunday, the average was $1.99 in Georgia, two pennies lower than the previous week. The national average was $2.04.
AtlantaGasPrices.com listed numerous gas stations in the Decatur area with regular unleaded priced well under 2 bucks, including:
- Texaco, 4369 N Peachtree Rd & Cotillion Dr, $1.97
- BP, 5418 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd & Mt Vernon Rd, $1.98
- Shell, 4479 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd & Cotillion Dr, $1.98
- Exxon, 77 Perimeter Center E & Ashford Dunwoody Rd, $1.99
- Chevron, 4249 Dunwoody Club Dr & Jett Ferry Rd, $1.99
“The gas price plunge is directly connected to declining global crude oil prices,” said Mark Jenkins, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Like pump prices, crude oil prices have posted multi-year lows due to global supply outpacing demand, which has kept downward pressure on the price of crude and ultimately meant hefty discounts in retail gasoline for U.S. drivers. The price of oil dipped again last week, meaning motorists could see even more discounts at the pump in the coming days.”
Crude oil prices have fallen more than $62 since the summer, AAA said.
“Gas prices will keep falling until the price of oil bottoms out,” said Jenkins. “It’s unclear when that will happen, but oil prices should remain relatively low through the first half of the year.”
