Dunwoody Police Responds to Sandy Hook Shootings

Police Chief Billy Grogan wrote an open letter to parents to describe the department's response to the Sandy Hook shootings.

In it, Grogan recounts how he reached out to the Police Chief of DeKalb Schools to bring a coordinated response. DeKalb Schools officers have been sending their resource officers to drop in on schools that don't have one, which mainly includes elementary schools.

To bolster that response, Dunwoody Police have stepped up high-visibility patrols outside the schools without DeKalb Police protection. The patrols will last through the end of the week, according to Grogan.

"As the details of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting are unfolding, it is important to remember that overall, the children in Dunwoody are safe while they are in our schools. It may not feel that way today. It may be difficult to feel that way in the near future. The fact is, a senseless act such as this alters our view of school security and reminds us how important it is to be forever vigilant to keep our children safe," he wrote.
