Former High School Employee Indicted in $13K Theft from Students

A DeKalb County grand jury has indicted a former DeKalb County School District employee on felony theft charges for allegedly taking more than $13,000 from Miller Grove High School’s cheerleading team and senior class accounts.

A news release by the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office says Daphne Murphy was indicted on two theft by taking charges that date back to 2009 and 2010 incidents.

“Ms. Murphy betrayed the trust of the cheerleaders, the senior class, the parents and the administration of Miller Grove High School,” said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James. “She lined her pockets with the money generated from various fundraising efforts of teenagers to benefit her own personal greed.”

Prosecutors say Murphy stole more than $13,000 while serving as a paraprofessional at the school.

Murphy turned herself in Jan. 14, and was released after paying a $24,000 bond.
