Although it is 80% Chardonnay, this 2017 white blend from The Prisoner Wine Company, adds in Viognier. and a few other grape varieties to produce a taste which is hardly typical of Chardonnay. It is lush and rich, and forms a niche of its own.
I like the influence the Viognier has on this wine. It adds to the fragrance with an herbal tone to the apple and orange citrus qualities in the nose. The flavors are strong, with apple, pear, and vanilla being up front, with a nuance of citrus toward the end. The mineral touch in the finish adds to the crispness, although it could use a touch more acidity. The alcohol content is 14.5%, and Norm's score is 90.
