Police Blotter July 3 - July 9: Arrests Made for Car Thefts, Drugs and Child Molestation

Police arrest Atlanta carjacker in shoplifting call

• Police arrested a 30-year-old Atlanta man on shoplifting charges on the afternoon of July 7 on the 1200 block of Hammond Drive. Police went to a shoplifting call, where the man had attempted to steal a Gateway computer monitor worth $219. When he was arrested, police found that the vehicle he was driving – a 2006 Volvo xc90 – had allegedly been stolen in a carjacking in Atlanta the day before. The vehicle was valued at $40,000.

Child molestation arrest

• A 32-year-old Dunwoody man was arrested on charges of sodomy, statutory rape and child molestation on the morning of July 8 on the 6800 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Edwin Marin-Barillas is being held in DeKalb County Jail on an immigration hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Burglary

• A woman called 911 around 3:30 a.m. on July 9 after she returned home to her apartment on the 300 block of Perimeter Center North and found a burglar inside. The burglar fled immediately. He had entered the apartment through a window.

• A 43-year-old Dunwoody man was arrested in connection to a burglary that occurred in early May. In the burglary, which occurred on the 4600 block of Peachtree Place Parkway, included $10,400 in electronics, jewelry and toys.

• A home was reported burglarized on the 1300 block of Winding Branch Circle on the afternoon of July 5. Jewelry and other items were reported stolen.

• $15,000 in jewelry was reported stolen from a home on the 1300 block of Winding Branch Circle on the morning of July 7.

 

Fraud

• A 25-year-old Stone Mountain woman, a 33-year-old Jackson, Miss. Woman, a 30-year-old Decatur woman and a 36-year-old Decatur man were arrested for fraud on the morning of July 8 for allegedly cashing fraudulent checks from their employer, Wal-Mart in Dunwoody. The group allegedly stole $13,000 through the checks.

• A theft by embezzlement was reported on the afternoon of July 8 on the 4000 block of Mill Brook Drive. The victim lost $17,000 through the theft. 

 

Drug possession

• A 31-year-old Austell man was arrested on the afternoon of July 6 after police pulled him over and allegedly found methamphetamine in his vehicle. He was arrested on drug possession charges, as ell as two traffic charges.

 

Shoplifting

• A 19-year-old Atlanta woman was arrested on shoplifting charges after she allegedly tried to steal a pair of $130 cargo pants from Macy’s at Perimeter Mall on the afternoon of July 3.

• A 20-year-old Decatur woman was arrested on the evening of July 5 for allegedly attempting to steal a pair of True Religion jeans worth $240 from Bloomingdale’s at Perimeter Mall.

• A 24-year-old Atlanta woman was arrested on the evening of July 6 for allegedly trying to steal a dress worth $34.99 from Macy’s at Perimeter Mall.

• Two Doraville women, ages 17 and 18, were arrested in the early hours of July 8 for allegedly trying to steal $165.79 in clothing from Macy’s at Perimeter Mall.

• A theft of $807.31 in clothing was reported at Macy’s at Perimeter Mall on the afternoon of July 7.

• Earrings worth $100 were reported stolen from Swarovski at Perimeter Mall on the afternoon of July 9.

• A theft of MEK jeans worth $135 was reported at Dillard’s at the Perimeter Mall on the evening of July 9.

 

Car break-in

• Two Coach purses/wallets, an Apple iTouch, credit and ID cards and a Kodak digital camera were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 2900 block of Four Oaks Drive on July 3.

• An iPad was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on the afternoon of July 7. The iPad was valued at $500.

• A Tom Tom GPS worth $50 was reported stolen from a vehicle on the 5300 block of Roberts Drive on the afternoon of July 8

• A Dell laptop worth $1,200 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Perimeter Center Parkway on the afternoon of July 8.

 

Car theft

• A black 2010 BMW M6 was reported stolen from a parking lot on the 100 block of Ashford Center North around noon on July 6. The vehicle was valued at $100,000.

• A white 1998 Ford Econoline Van was reported stolen from the 4600 block of Peachtree Place Parkway on the morning of July 5.

• A silver 2011 Nissan Versa was reported stolen from Hertz rental car company at 246 Perimeter Center Pkwy. on the afternoon of July 7. The vehicle is valued at $30,000.

 

Theft

• Aluminum and tanks of high-pressure oxygen and proprolyne were reported stolen from a construction site on the 4500 block of N. Shallowford Road on the afternoon of July 7. The stolen items were worth a total of $5,360.

• A 42-year-old Duluth man was arrested for allegedly trying to steal at $500 Wal-Mart shopping card from Wal-Mart at 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Rd.

• A Trane air conditioning unit worth $5,000 was reported stolen from the 1300 block of Dunwoody Village Parkway. The air conditioner was reported stolen on July 6.

• An LG Optimus phone was reported stolen from a customer at the Perimeter Mall on the afternoon of July 6. The phone was valued at $500.

• A Netgear wireless router was reported stolen from a residence on the 4100 block of Peachford Circle on the night of July 6. The router was valued at $79.99.

• $60 in cash was reported stolen from a business on the 1700 block of Old Spring house Lane on the night of July 6.

• Several credit cards, ID cards and $100 in cash was reported stolen from a guest at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the 4300 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on the afternoon of July 8.

• Checks, identification cards, a set of safety deposit keys, gift cards and several prescription drugs were reported stolen at Dunwoody Library building at 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. on the afternoon of July 8.

• Two credit cards and $100 in cash were reported stolen from someone shopping at Perimeter Mall on the night of July 9.

 

Vandalism

• Two vehicles were reported damaged by fire on the morning of July 9 on the 6700 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
