Police: Burglar Shot by Homeowner Has Died

A suspected burglar broke in when he thought no one was home, according to police. The suspect died recently from his injuries.

A suspected burglar who has shot in the head during a Dec. 3 Brookhaven break-in has died from his injuries, according to police.

Officers responded to a townhouse on Ashford Creek Drive off Ashford Dunwoody Road around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 for reports of a burglary, WSB TV reports.

According to Brookhaven police, the suspect rang the doorbell for the townhouse several times, assumed no one was home when the owner did not respond and broke into the home.

“He made forced entry into the home (and) encountered the resident inside the home, who fired one shot,” Officer Carlos Nino told WSB TV.

Clendon L. Sims, 51, of Atlanta, was shot by the homeowner during the burglary attempt by the homeowner, according to Brookhaven police spokesman Carlos Nino. Sims died from his injuries on Friday evening, Nino told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
